Headaches

Why do my headaches keep coming back?

G3 Chiro in Newport Beach treats headaches by looking for what keeps loading the neck rather than treating only where the pain sits. Dr. Jaron Hua assesses how the head sits over the body, from the pelvis up, including the upper neck and base of the skull, the jaw, and how the upper back and ribs move. Sessions run 45 to 90 minutes.

Does this sound like you?

  • It starts at the base of your skull and climbs up
  • It is always on the same side, behind the same eye
  • It is worse after a long day at the computer or a long drive
  • Massage helps for a day, then it is back

Why it keeps coming back

Most headache care stays at the head and neck. Medication, massage on the tight spot, an adjustment at the top of the spine. Nobody checks the upper back, ribs, jaw or pelvis, which should be sharing the load, so the neck keeps holding the head up on its own and the tension rebuilds. Hydration, meal timing, caffeine and sleep usually get skipped too, and those keep headaches going even after the neck and back are moving better.

How Dr. Jaron looks at it

Dr. Jaron looks at how the head sits over the body, from the pelvis up. He checks the upper neck and base of the skull, the jaw, and how the upper back and ribs move. In each area he checks four things that can get stuck: the joints, the muscles, the nerves, and the fascia, the thin layer that wraps every muscle and nerve.

What to expect

Hands-on work on whatever is stuck and putting extra strain on the neck, paired with specific exercises so the change holds between visits. Where diet, hydration or blood sugar are part of the picture, Dr. Jaron gives nutritional support as well.

Common questions

Questions patients ask.

Why do my headaches come back after a massage or an adjustment?

Most headache care stays at the head and neck. The upper back, ribs, jaw and pelvis are rarely checked, and those should be sharing the load. When they are not, the neck keeps holding the head up on its own and the tension rebuilds.

Does it matter where on my head it hurts?

Yes. Dr. Jaron works from six locations, and each one points somewhere different. Pain at the back of the head sends him to the upper back and pelvis. The temples send him to the jaw, upper neck and pelvis. Forehead pain and one-sided pain each have their own pattern.

Could what I eat and drink be part of it?

Often. Hydration, meal timing, caffeine and sleep usually get skipped in headache care, and they can keep headaches going even after the neck and back are moving better. Where diet, hydration or blood sugar are part of the picture, Dr. Jaron gives nutritional support alongside the hands-on work.

Do you look at my jaw for headaches?

Yes. The jaw is one of the areas assessed, and it comes up for pain at the forehead, the temples and one side of the head.

What happens at the first visit?

An assessment of how your head sits over your body, from the pelvis up. That covers the upper neck and base of the skull, the jaw, and how the upper back and ribs move. In each area Dr. Jaron checks four things that can get stuck: the joints, the muscles, the nerves, and the fascia.
