Carpal tunnel

Why does my hand keep going numb?

G3 Chiro in Newport Beach treats carpal tunnel symptoms by following the nerve along its whole path rather than treating only the wrist. The nerve behind the numbness and tingling runs from the neck, past the first rib, through the shoulder, elbow and forearm, and only then into the wrist. Dr. Jaron Hua checks each point along that route in sessions of 45 to 90 minutes, then works on whatever is holding the nerve up.

Does this sound like you?

  • Your hand goes numb at night and you have to shake it out
  • Your thumb and first two fingers tingle when you type, drive or grip a club
  • You keep dropping things
  • The wrist brace helps a little, but it does not go away

Why it keeps coming back

Braces, injections and even surgery all focus on the wrist. If the nerve is pinched or stuck further up its path, it stays irritated no matter what is done at the wrist. The nerve also needs to glide freely as you move, and when the tissue around it gets stuck, it gets tugged every time you reach, type or grip.

How Dr. Jaron looks at it

Dr. Jaron follows the nerve along its whole path, from the neck to the fingers, to find where it is actually being held up. At each point he checks four things that can get stuck: the joints, the muscles, the nerves, and the fascia, the thin layer that wraps every muscle and nerve.

What to expect

Hands-on work on whatever is stuck, so the nerve can move freely again. That includes joint work for the neck, ribs and the small bones of the wrist, and you leave with specific exercises you can do on your own.

Common questions

Questions patients ask.

My problem is in my wrist. Why would you look at my neck?

The nerve behind the numbness and tingling runs from the neck, past the first rib, through the shoulder, elbow and forearm, and only then into the wrist. If it is pinched or stuck anywhere along that path, it stays irritated no matter what is done at the wrist.

The brace helps a little. Why has it not gone away?

Braces, injections and surgery all focus on the wrist. If the hold-up is further up the path the nerve takes, treating the wrist does not reach it.

Why is it worse when I type, drive or grip?

The nerve needs to glide freely as you move. When the tissue around it gets stuck, the nerve gets tugged every time you reach, type or grip.

What happens in a session?

Dr. Jaron follows the nerve from the neck to the fingers to find where it is actually being held up, checking the joints, muscles, nerves and fascia at each point. Treatment is hands-on work on whatever is stuck, including joint work for the neck, ribs and the small bones of the wrist, plus specific exercises.
